| Reflexology is a touch
therapy applying gentle pressure on the feet or hands.
It is based on the theory that reflex points found in both the
feet and hands correspond
to the organs, glands, muscles and skeletal structure
of the body.
Our feet are the furthest from our heart so gravity tends
to pull toxins down into the feet allowing a reflexologist
to detect the waste products under the skin (uric acid or
calcium crystals) indicating blockages within the body. Reflexology
can therefore help remove waste products via the lymphatic
system, stimulate circulation around the body and aid the
distribution of nutrients and oxygen to the organs.
Reflexologists use only their fingers and thumbs to apply
pressure to stimulate and encourage healing within the body
and maintain a natural state of equilibrium. The therapy dates
back to 2330 B.C. in ancient Egypt, and is also traced to
Inca and Chinese civilizations.

The great thing about reflexology
is that it is a fully-clothed treatment that can be used to
treat anyone from children to the elderly. Reflexology can treat
patients with chronic to mild conditions, including stress,
anxiety, insomnia, migraines, depression, low energy levels,
hormonal imbalances, thyroid and metabolism, asthma, eczema,
digestive disorders, diabetes, menstrual symptoms, infertility,
maternity and post natal, back, shoulder and neck pain.
Reflexology not only has physical benefits but it also encourages
the release of built up emotions and tensions. It is particularly
effective in reducing stress levels and induces deep relaxation
at times when we need it the most. |
